Converting from Hotmail might I also add. I think Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL are going to suffer from Gmails introduction.

You might be interested in Pop Goes the GMail Lets you use any POP3 client (e.g. Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook Express, etc.) to retrieve Gmail. Still in Beta, but looking good so far. Has a support forum as well.
I'm sure we'll see several more of this type of program.

Not quite as good as the space being allowed on GMail, but Yahoo has raised their storage level and done some changes probably to compete with GMail and other email services.

I really like the gmail interface. Once you get used to using labels, its really fast to use it.
All the pages are pre-loaded so clicks are instant, rather than having loading delays.
