I keep a hotmail account for posting to newsgroups through Outlook Express. Was able to set it up so it doesn't accept any mail - kind of a blackhole.

I keep a Hotmail account for MSN messenger and spam sites, a Yahoo account for some things because I've had since they first gave out 6MB accounts, but use my own domains/email servers for most things.
It's nice to see Yahoo attempt to keep up with Google - but it won't last too long. I think we'll see in the future that Google has a better architecture that nobody else can keep up with because they all have systems that do too much and can't compete with Google's dedicated purpose hardware/software.
Google hires smart people to solve small problems... That means that the problems are solved well. Nobody else does that. (Google is has more PhDs working for them than anyone else [per capita?].)
They will eventually come up with a "smart search" that will scan your recent activity to narrow searches based on your limited output - it's only a matter of time now.

It's very nice having a domain email account, but I still use my Hotmail account for things like Amazon, HMV and other e-commerce sites, also for important information involving my Uni and such. The main reason for this is Hotmail is always going to work and I don't need to pay for it so it's always there. So, if I forget to pay my host, I won't miss out any important emails because I get them to Hotmail.

in competition between big companies, users always get benefit from this, u all know that www.rediff.com offers 1 gb of mail storage and its for free and working now a days, so i can say that rediff is the first site to give such storage, while google is the first to introduce the 1 gb free email account.
