Well I've checked the same thing on two other computers, an old ThinkPad running XP and IE8, and a Vaio running Win 8.1 and IE11 same as this. Both work as they should in this respect, so all I have to do is work out what is different on this one.
PS. Just been through all the Internet settings, including advanced, and both this PC and the Vaio are exactly the same.

Could you give me a bit of information on this please? How does the forum know where I last looked, is it stored on a cookie on my computer or within my profile in the forum?
As a PS to the above, I have just installed Opera on this PC and again everything works as it should. So there must be something different about my installation of IE11.

To calculate unread posts the last date you visited the forum is used which then create an array of unread posts server side which is used to mark off all unread posts as read as you go through the forum.
It could be that IE is caching the redirect which is why you are ending up at the wrong page as the cached redirect is used rather than loading in fresh data.
I am sure a no cache header is set for the redirect. Are you using the latest version of web wiz forums?

Yes, just been updated. But the update made no difference to this situation.

It could be that Internet Explorer cached the redirect under the previous version that you had running before you upgraded.

Thanks for all the pointers, I think I might have sorted it. I changed the internet options and forced IE to look for a new copy every time I visit a webpage, also removed the option to cash pages. This still didn't help. so I deleted the Temp internet files, again closed the browser and reopened, and it seems to work as it should.

Well things are still not right. Having done all of the above, and having visited a topic before, I get a grey arrow if I go to new topics and select say the last 2 hours. If I click on that grey arrow in long topics it still takes me to a specific point often on the first page. If I then go to the forum home page, scroll to the bottom and click on the same grey arrow at the end of the same topic it always takes me to the last post in the topic. If I then go back to new topics, and click on that arrow again, it still takes me to that same point on the first page. Confused? Yes.

Well just upgraded to Windows 10. Still using the same IE11, but the problem has gone away, so the upgrade clearly changed something.
