   Advertising is a hard question... I didn't vote.

The entire thing depends on ROI. Branding is cool, but still... few can afford branding campaigns.

The other issue is targeting. That's hard. Untargetted ads aren't worth much.

Rates in CPM or CPC are most common, so it's hard to vote. For
targetted CPC, I'd pay quite a bit. $0.50 CPC isn't unreasonable for
some of the ads I'd want to run. For others, $0.05 would be the max. 

For CPM, $1~$5 is normal. I've seen $500~$1,250 CPM for some email list
inclusions for CEOs and the like. The ad market is fairly mature, so
it's a hard nut to crack. 

I'd have to know CPM or CPC to know what I'd want to pay.
