Actually, if you look at their prices, they are not all that cheap. $80 for WinXP Pro is not uncommon at all as I can find it at many online reputable vendors for around $100. Wal-Mart sells the McAfee Spam Killer for $29.99 on the shelf, while Decasoft has it for $20.

Anyway, I'm not in support of Decasoft one way or the other since I wouldn't wait the long time for the shipping. However, that site doesn't fit the "typical" spammed email site in content or look.

It would be interesting to find someone who has actually ordered from them.

The prices are probably explained by the fact that they are more realistic than other OEM scam sites, and a biproduct of their realism is increased profits also.

I wouldn't be suprised if the website layout was mimicked from another site or bought from a template site.

There are an estimated 800,000 scam OEM sites out there, this one was only bought to our attention because of it's more sophisticated functioning and style.

It's not hard nowadays to validate the authenticity of any E-store, do a WHOIS on the domain, if your feeling brave even phone them, Google every company name they run under and try and find forums of people who have bought from that site.

OEM software is usually the same as the boxed without support or the box. Normally OEM software is supplied with a new PC system so manufactures can do bundle deals. OEM software is no problem as long as you do not need support as the makers of the software would normally tell you to go to the supplier for assistance.

OEM software is it good or bad? This depends on how you see it. As long as software manufactures are not suffering due to the undercutting of the price I can not see a problem and I dont think they would sell the product as OEM if they were not.

It all depends if you want the software with support and a cardboard box as cost or to take the chance with OEM without the support and without the box at a cheaper price. Hmmmm let me think now what do you think?

All I can say it watch out where you get it as you can not complain if the software dont work. If you do the question from the software manufacture would be where did you get it form and did you know you where getting OEM. If you did not know it was OEM then the supplier may get a nasty kick up the .... from the software manufacture and you will not get a replacement. If you did know you was getting OEM from the supplier, you and the supplier may get a nasty kick up the .... from the software manufacture and you still will not get a replacement.

It's up to you

Actually, that is a lame excuse of a statement. There are many companies that sell authorized OEM versions under agreement from the software makers. The software makers still make the same amount as if they had sold it to the OEM in the first so the argument the money argument doesn't wash either.

There are tons of VERY legitimate sites on the internet that sell OEM hardware and software. Many times the software/hardware makers overestimate demand and overproduce. To move this excess and free up their inventory cash flow, they will sell it in bulk to a distributor. There are also plenty of other reasons.

Whether or not decasoft is legitimate (appears maybe not) is not the issue. As a consumer online you should treat this as no different than any other purchase. Do a quick google of the retailer.

Here are some VERY legitimate vendors that offer various OEM versions, which debunks the above quote from The Register. Maybe The Register considers them "warez for sale" sites???

Actually,

I build a pc now and again for friends, and since it is a new pc I purchase OEM software for it. I have had very good luck with http://www.marketpc.com/ and a few others that you find through yahoo shopping. I would never buy any software from a SPAM e-mail. That would be a lot like putting your credit card info on your web site.

Have a great day!!
Mike
