I have a merchant account with paypal. I am going to start selling
stuff on my site. However the surcharge is confusing me slightly. I
know they have a surcharge of 3-4% for merchant accounts. However is the surcharge subrtracted from the order or added on top of the order?  |

The charge is subtracted from the total.

I was unsure wheather you could make the cutomer pay the surcharge. |

You can not force the charge onto the customer as it's against the Terms of Usage. You can up your price to cover PayPal fees, but that price has to be the same as what you charge for cash or checks.

Nope, that still cause for hav ing your account terminated. You can NOT charge more for using PayPal. You can either increase your prices overall payments or eat the charges. Surely, since you're more likely to sell stuff over the Net if you
offer card payment options, it's worth the hit? And if what
you're selling is downloadable, then that's even better. But, unless you're undercharging, it is the customer who's taking the hit anyway, as I see it. |
