Subject: Login and Admin problems

I just recently installed WebWiz.

1 - Unfortunately typing in: Administrator and the password doesn't reveal the link I am supposed to click on that will allow me to set up my forums.

2 - When a new user is created and is logged in. Logout does NOT work!! (the user can't logout)

3 - Lastly, when the user presses the register button after they have typed in their details it comes up with some ASP CDONTS mail error.

Any ideas anyone...??

1. Could be corrupted files or incorrectly setup, reupload files again.

2. Same as above.

3. Check with your host that they support CDONTS, if they do again it could be a corrupted file.

Thanks,

Other than the forum to setup (which I can get to), there really isn't any other setup involvded is there?

I only today downloaded the files, so they should be all ok (access 2002 version and 2000 version, both had the same problem)

I don't think it does support CDONTS... so is there a way around this error?

Sounds like your forum is incorrectly setup.

Turn off email functions in the admin section if your host doesn't support any of the email componets supported.

I have found that login doesn't work sometimes and logout NEVER works for me.

In other posts it was said that its an IE cookie problem.

But... I can log in and out of the WebWiz forums (these ones) no problem.

(I have downloaded webwiz many times)

Any ideas?

It could be anti-virus software, internet security sofware, firewall software, etc. interfering with the running of the forum. Try disabling and reenabling these types of software on your machine and on the server.

still not sure?

I tried the forum using opera web browser, I turned off zonealarm and my antivirus software and I still can't login/logoff.

I don't know if this helps but:

1 - I am running the forum locally to test it

2 - ** I have noticed that if I use '\forum\admin\default.asp' to logon as administrator it works!!!... I just can't log in through the normal way as administrator. **

But i still can't logoff or login as a normal user.

not sure if that helps?

Still sounds like a cookie problem.

hiya ,

yeah i know the exact problem you have well, its because you are testing it on a parallel page to your normal forum, and the cookies confuse one another,i found that as soon as i had finished the testing and went live that all the problems dissapeared!

what do you mean by a parallel page? (as in how I am serving it locally to test it?)

I would like to serve it over a network... does this mean I will still have the same problem?

thanks for your advice

by parallel page(my bad gramma)i meant 2 forums on the one site,so the pc is confusing cookies in one, hense the login probs with the new forum.

Hmmm,

Well I think my problem is server side.

I say this because I have no problems using these forums (the webwiz forums). I am also still unsure whether it is cookie related.

Will let you know if I work it out..

If anyone else has encountered these problems and worked out what was going on, please let me know

Try turning off any antivirus software, etc. on the server and see if that solves the problem.

The answer maybe???

The web server I am using is 'Abyss'. http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/index.html - http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/index.html

I am starting to think that maybe it doesn't support cookies properly. I won't know until I try another server in a few months.

I have tried turning off antiV, firewalls, etc..

So, there is a good chance that it COULD be my server

thanks for all your advice everyone

Yeah go for IIS or Apache

The forums don't work on Abyss, i've tried them on it before and had the exact same problem, you need to use IIS.

<edit> i don't think is the web server but the asp component, you can try to install a different component and see if it helps but i tried a few and it never worked.....i also tried to run them on Apache with the same components and never got them to work.......

THANYOU!!!

Hopefully I will have more luck when I change to Apache running ASP modules.

The forum won't run under Apache.

See the 'Forum Requirements' page found in the left menu of this page.

Web Wiz Forums will only run under Microsofts IIS4+ with ASP2+

As Microsoft only produce ASP for it's IIS web server ASP is only fully supported under this plateform, under other web servers you need 3rd party software to get ASP to run but none of the 3rd party software fully supports all the methods and properties of ASP.

Hi! I am a new user, so first of all...

Thank you very much for this Brilliant Work

It is just excelent! CONGRATULATIONS!

Now... I think that I know which is exactlly the problem!!

You must pass the EXACT URL TO YOUR BROWSER! I know it, because I had the same problem. Example:

http://localhost/forum/default.asp - http://localhost/forum/default.asp ----> did not work

http://localhost/forum/default.asp - http://localhost/forum/default.asp ---> It works.

I am sure that this is the problem. Sometimes the smaller errors are the most dificult to solve.

Byes, I hope my post will help you!

PD: excuse my bad english... and again CONGRATULATIONS!
