Topic: Send Email Error - Yet Email is Sent Posted: 10 August 2006 at 10:33pm |
I looked everywhere and can't get any help. The Wiz support people say its the servers and my host says its the forum software.
Here's what's going on.
The user gets the following error whenever the forum sends an email (like when they register) although the email is being sent. This is very confusing to the users to say the least.
Server Error in Forum Application An error has occured while sending an email. Please contact the forum administrator.
Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_send_mail_footer File Name:- functions_send_mail.asp
Error details:- Persits.MailSender.4 Invalid registration key.
While I'd love a fix, I'd be happy if I could even just turn off the error.
Anyone had this problem before or have any ideas as to what might be casuing it?
Thanks
Ken

According to the persists site who make the email component you use, it means that you don't have a valid registration for the email component.
This means you either need to purchase a valid registration for the email component, or switch to a free email component.
CDOSYS is built into Win 2000 onwards, so you should be able to use that.

Thanks - that's the way I read it too.
BUT - they (the Web Host) SAYS their registration is current. And when they do a test with their own ASP page that uses Persists AspEmail - It works fine.
This was the link they gave me to test.
No error is generated when this page is used to send an email.
They also insist that if the registration wasn't current they my forum would NOT be sending the email - which it does.

The example link they give is for a simple version of AspEmail, for which you don't need a valid license key, to use some other features of AspEmail, that are required in Web Wiz Forums, you need a valid license key.

Thanks.
I'll pass that along to my host and see what they say.
I'll let you know what they say.

Well....
I just got off the phone with my host.
They claim that their AspEmail is registered and has all the features.
They still insist that the source of the problem is with the code of Wiz Forum.
So... I'm stuck in the middle. I love Wiz Forum and it works perfectly EXCEPT for this email problem.
Is there anyway I can modify the ASP code at my end to be able to send emails and not have the error code generated?

There isn't an issue with Web Wiz Forums as 1000's of people use thsi email component with it without an problem.
the only time this issue has popped up once before, as far as I remember, was with the same web host, speakeasy, who claimed then as well that the issue was with web wiz forums and not with them having an invalid licence key.
The only way to know for sure is contact Persist support, they are a very friendly bunch, and should be able to let you know for sure what courses this error with their email component. They should also know if your web host does have a valid license key.
