SQL Server is enterprise-level, money making stuff.

Access is more like hobby stuff.

So, the bottomline is what's your business?

Is SQL that much better for a large traffic messageboard?

  • Yes

Is it worth the extra Cash?

  • Depends

OK the more complicated answer is that forums are server intensive, I know a lot of companies (hosting) who passionately hate them, multiple queries running all the time, some quite complex, people writing to the system repeatedly and so on...

Access is pretty good, particularly v2000 (and above) however SQL is better... especially when WRITING / UPDATING information to the forum...  So, a popular forum - yes, an unpopular one - no!

We currently get over 30,000 visitors a day (not hits) I just want to know if we deploy an Access version, is it going to handle the load?

We will be running Win2k Server w/Access 2002 or mySQL 4.0.12 - it all depends on what will work.

I really don't think a flat file Access (any version) can handle 30,000 visitors. Man, if you got 30,000 visitors, the hits must be way way more than 30,000.

Go "evaluate" yourself how THIS wwg forum runs, which runs on sQl.
