Topic: Emails when a new post is created? Posted: 24 January 2012 at 3:58pm |
|
I am using the latest version of Web Wiz. The problem is when someone creates a new post no one receives an email that its there. I have looked everywhere in the settings for this option but cannot find it.
Does anyone know where it is?
Thank you

Email settings are setup from the Email Settings page in the admin area.
Depending on your settings email notifications are not sent to yourself about your own posts, and members only get notified of the first post in a topic until they return to the board.

I just looked under the email settings and this option is set to "Yes"
Forum Wide Emails - If enabled allows emails to be sent from the forum for Post Notification, Forgotten Passwords, Private Messages, etc.
The email settings work because people who reply can receive messages, its just that when someone creates a new post it doesn't email.
Any other ideas? All of the members are "newbies" in the system.

Do you mean new post or new topic?
If it's a new post (within an existing topic) and they have replies switched on - Then I can't offer an explanation.
If it's a new topic, can I just check that they are subscribed to the forum section it's made in. To receive emails about a "new topic", they need to be subscribed to that forum section, if they're not section subscribed, they won't get emails about new topics etc.

Hmmm....the user list was taken from another server and added to Web Wiz. It looks like their subscriptions were not transferred.
Is there a way to subscribe all users to an existing topic?

That would be illegal in most countries under anti-spam laws.
The person needs to explicitly subscribe themselves to such communication.

The customer moved from their old hosting account at one business to another. Everyone on the old forum were notified of the transfer.
Ok, I will tell the client to have the users resubscribe.

oops! There is still a problem.
There is a user who is testing this so I decided to look at his settings.
I logged in as an admin for the forum itself and clicked on "MemberList" then I typed in the users name and clicked on it. The button at the bottom "Edit This Members Forum Settings" shows so I clicked on that then "Subscriptions."
This brings me to a page with two sections: 1) "Forum(s) that you have Subscribed to Email Notification" 2) "Topics that you have Subscribed to Email Notification"
Under "Forum(s) that you have Subscribed to Email Notification" the user is subscribed to ALL THE FORUMS. However in the section "Topics that you have Subscribed to Email Notification" there are NO TOPICS he is subscribed to.
His question is "If I am subscribed to these forums why am I not getting emails? When someone posts a NEW TOPIC in one of these forums I should receive an email that someone posted a NEW TOPIC."
