    Posted: 08 January 2004 at 12:57am

My main directory for my website (www folder) is read only. The write folder (data) is at the same level as the www folder but is mapped virtually & actually exists on another drive.

I've tried writing the entire path (virtual http) to get the images to upload but no luck. E.G. http://www.mysite.com/uploads (which is a virtual http path resolving to o:/isp/rootdirectory/mysite/data/uploads or something like that.

Is there something special I need to do to use the http path? Do I simply use the full path in the function upload.asp file?

The upload folder needs to be inside of the root of your web site with HTTP access so browsers can load in the images/uploads (it's not like the database).

What you need to do is keep the upload directory in it's original location and request that your web hosts place write permissions on that folder.

Thanks for the update info! I appreciate the fast response. My ISP won't allow write permissions on the www folder. Perhaps I can move the entire forum into the data folder then.

Question: Can I simply store the function_upload file in the read/write folder and change the path in the script that calls that file?

I'm afraid you can't.

Anything viewed in a browser like images need to be inside of your www folder.

Olny things like databases can be outside of this folder as in the case of databases it is the server that access this and sends the data to an asp file in your www folder to be displayed.

The only solution you have is to get your host to set write permissions on the upload folder in your www folder. But ONLY your upload folder, you don't need write permissions on the whole www folder. If your host won't do this your only option is not use this feature or get a new web host.
