Can anyone tell me what the database field salt is in WebWiz Forum version 7 beta 3?

I am trying to get to know the fields but am stumped as to what this field is for.

It is used for the encryption of the password. The salt value together with the encrypted password are needed to compare the clear text string passed when logging in.
