I have an issue with a guy who keeps posting stuff after I've banned his IP address? It seemed to work OK when I'd done it previously but this guy is still logging on all the time??

IP addresses can change and also be hidden or altered.
You can try suspending their account, blocking IP's, closing off new
registrations, make the new users group read only (make the new user
group not allowed to post in forums) then manually move members to a
group that can.
But at the end of the day, if someone wants they will always get round any method you try to block them.
The last one, of the new users not being able to post then manually
move new members to a group that can would probably be the best way to
block this guy.

think about it...
with the cookie... you can as admin do the "ban member" order
then when the member log again to the banned account he directed to the suspend page
and thats it! ive seen it in action in the invision board and its great way to ban
without any manual stuff

The more you are doing to annoy people the more they will annoy you.
Ban somebody and he will create additional memberships. And you can do
nothing about it. IP-banning, cookie-banning; it never works.
Our record was a user who created 30+ memberships after he was not even banned but had only his forum rights restricted.

You can already suspend members by making their account inactive within web wiz forums.
If a members account becomes suspend they can only view the board in
the same way a guest can, but if they try and post messages, etc. they
get a message saying their account is suspended.

My site is a bar life community on line with many members, ive only had do do a few suspensions in the few years we've had the forum live.
People learn the rules/guidelines early on as other long term members are very loyal and keep an eye out for idiots who might register and try to spoil the atmosphere
I guess it depends on who your site is aimed at, people can always re-register but it makes it harder if you've banned that ip address and you regularly monitor the daily posts
Im running 7.9 at the moment and had to create a new user group as ticking the inactive box on the members profile failed to close the account
still, id never change this forum despite geeks asking me why i run web wiz opposed to others, its fan-bl00dy-tastic

yes but they can allways can log off their account and register again..
thats why when they will try to access to ANY page they will be directed to the suspended page
i think that will be a great way to ban

Hi Simon,
Is there any way you can post the code to do the admin banning cookie?
Thanks,
Adam
